The first specialist Club for the breed – The British Miniature Schnauzer Club was formed in 1933, but this only lasted for a few years being liquidated in 1936. After then and before the formation of the present MINIATURE SCHNAUZER CLUB in 1953, the interests of the breed were looked after by the Schnauzer Club of Great Britain, which although it had been founded in 1929, a year after Miniatures first came to this country, it was not until some years later, in May 1945, that the Schnauzer Club actually opened its membership to Miniature owners, from which time Miniature breeders have held office and regularly served as committee members. The Schnauzer Club also looked after the interests of the Giant Schnauzer from 1964, when the breed was seriously imported into this country with the idea of establishing the breed here. The Giant Schnauzer Club being formed in November 1979. First imported into this country in 1928, Miniatures were at first registered along with Standard Schnauzers and not given a separate Register until 1932. In July 1935 the Kennel Club changed the name of the breed to Affenschnauzer, and the first Kennel Club Challenge Certificate awarded to the breed were, in fact, under this name. However, just over a year later, as the result of an objection from the German Club, the name reverted back to Miniature Schnauzer. The first set of Challenge Certificates were offered to the breed in May 1935 at the West of England Ladies’ General Championship Show. |
